OSHA Certified Forklift Man Baskets
Lakeshore Industrial manufactures Forklift Man Baskets that meet and exceed ASME B56.1 standards as well as OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502 Subpart M for fall protection. Lakeshore Industrial forklift and telehandler baskets have been known to hold up for over 20 years due to their heavy duty 1 1/2″ square tube design.
- Mast protection: Featuring a heavy duty expanded metal back with gaps no larger than a half inch.
- Forklift baskets must not exceed 10″ wider than the fork truck to either side of the wheels unless outriggers are used.
- Cal OSHA Compliant: 7′ backs are available to comply with CAL OSHA regulations.
- Fall Protection: All man baskets must include 39″-45″ guardrails, a toe plate, safety lanyard anchor points, and grab rails for personnel in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502 Subpart M
- Heavy Duty Pin locking system locks the basket onto the fork truck to prevent sliding off the forks.

Forklift Man Basket FAQ’s
A forklift man basket should be built to follow ASME B56.1 and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502 subpart M for fall protection standards. Forklift man baskets must be secured to the forklift, have a 5′ tall protective back (7′ for California) and be equipped with guardrails and harness tie off points.
Forklift baskets include fork pockets that the fork tines lift from. When the basket is against the forklift mast guard insert heavy duty pins behind the heel of the fork tines or in some cases hook a high capacity chain behind the mast guard to attach the basket.
The primary difference between a forklift man basket and a telehandler basket is the protective back. A forklift basket will require a 5′ high protective back with gaps of no more than 1/2 inch while a telehandler basket does not. Both will still require the basket to be locked onto the fork tines and include safety harness tie off points as well as guardrails.
