Construction safety week is an initiative launched in 2014 by a group of major construction companies. The goal behind this initiative is a simple one; to reduce the amount of injuries and fatalities occurring on construction jobsites. Construction has always been an extremely dangerous profession with over 167,000 reported injuries in 2024 alone and 1034 fatalities, according to https://www.bls.gov/.
What is done on construction safety week
Every year for 1 week companies will pause to review their work practices for safety improvements. For some that may mean new training methods, or new protective equipment, new inspection methods, for others it may mean a complete overhaul of operations. Taking one week of time to keep workers safe is more than just good human behavior, it can be beneficial to a company’s bottom line as well. Nothing will hurt a business more than down time due to injury, or worse, fatalities. Beyond the down time companies will also have to deal with insurance companies, lawyers, and potentially government intervention. This is why it is vital that companies pause for a moment to be sure they are optimizing worker safety.
What can be done
Companies can and should review all practices involved in their approach to safety. For us at Lakeshore Industrial that means reviewing our employee onboarding process for our welders. This is a process that has continuously been improved over the years as new potentially dangerous patterns become discovered in operations. We take our employees and walk them through every machine in our shop, even the most simple. We also show them hands on how to handle carrying and lifting steel to prevent potential injury. Simple things like this can go a long way in keeping our workers safe.
Lakeshore Industrial and construction safety
Lakeshore Industrial has been providing construction companies safety products and solutions since our beginnings in 1998. We are committed to high quality safety products and rigorous testing. Our man baskets are load tested at 200% of their capacity before they leave our facility. Our material lifting baskets are all overbuilt to handle the wear and tear of rough construction environments. We work with construction companies, contractors, and industrial equipment suppliers to find a solution to their problems while making sure we also keep their workers safe. We do this by never wavering from OSHA guidelines associated with below the hook products (ASME B30.20). If you’re interested in proven ways to keep workers safe, reach out to us, we’d love to help you out.
